Lenham Pottery Models one-eighth scale Suffolk Punch. The Suffolk Punch is undoubtedly the oldest recognised distinct breed of heavy horse in this country (England), coming originally from the north country, perhaps with the Vikings in the ninth century. It is today mostly found in the East Anglian arable region. The Suffolk was bred with a deep round body, longer from chest to tail than the other breeds. With its heavy shoulders and short legs, it made an ideal plough horse for the heavy clay lands. At harvest time a pair could pull a loaded waggon on soft ground from a dead stop where other breeds might have lost heart. The Lenham Pottery Model of a Suffolk Punch mare in a walking position is 7.5 inches to the withers, equal to 15.2 hands. The permitted breed colours are bright gold, chestnut, as photo, or sorrel (dark red brown), with flaxen mane and tail. Here the mane and tail are braided and finished with coloured ribbons. Allow four inches between the shafts.
