This page
gives information, details, dimensions and prices in £ and $ of
the Lenham Pottery Models one-tenth scale Carriage Horse.

The price of the 1/10th Carriage Horse, SOLD WITHOUT HARNESS, is £170,
which includes packing and delivery by Royal Mail special delivery service
(insured - requires signature on arrival). The price to the USA by 'Air
International Signed For', insured delivery, is $337.
See Contact and Terms
for details of payment arrangements.
A tall powerful horse, often used in a team of four, capable of hauling
a loaded mail coach from one stage to the next, (10 - 20 miles, depending
upon the gradients and the road surface) at the regulation speed (8 -
10 miles per hour.) In a team of four, the offside leader and sometimes
the nearside wheeler would be light coloured, grey or nearly white. This
gave the coachman a 'marker' when driving in the dark. The model would
also be suitable for private driving carriages of the larger sort and
four-wheel delivery vans. For private driving, of course, a matched team
would be selected. This photo is of a bay in the harness of an offside
wheeler to a pole in a team of four. The strap hanging from the kidney
link on the collar hooks onto the crab on the pole. The traces from the
tees on the collar finish in loops that slip over the roller bolts on
the splinter bar on the front of the coach. Note the absence of breechings,
because such a vehicle would have an efficient mechanical brake.
The horse stands
7 inches to the withers, (17.2 hands at tenth scale). I colour it to order
in all normal horse colours, bay, grey or chestnut, gloss or satin finish.
Allow 3 inches between shafts.
