INTRODUCTION
TO PEOPLE PARTS ©.
When I began making horses for model horse-drawn vehicle
builders, I was often asked by my customers for a driver for their waggon.
It looks odd, they said, to have a horse, particularly one walking or
trotting harnessed to the vehicle, without a person driving. Some people
had tried plastic soldiers or children's dressing up toys and disliked
the result when the model was put in charge of their carefully crafted
waggon. There were many 1/12th scale people for the dolls house hobby,
but there seemed to be nothing at 1/8th scale. So I made some heads, hands
and boots. In order to sell them, I had to dress the models and put them
in place in the scene. In a previous incarnation, I had worked in the
needle trades, and understood pattern-making. So I made paper patterns
that would fit a variety of sizes, men, women and boys, and which could
be modified to suit the fashions of the era of the vehicle.
In previous photos, there are two ladies sitting in the waggonette
being driven by Charles,(near the bottom of Harness
History). The link is Waggonette.
Harry is leading the tip cart, seen on the Horses
introductory page.
The parts
are sold as separate items, not assembled, not clothed.

| Soft
galvanised mild steel wire (not supplied) should be inserted
into the head. Cut it to the correct length from the diagram, long
enough to be glued into the boots. Arm wire goes through the shoulder
holes and is glued into the hands. Clothe the model before
fixing hands and boots to the wires. |
The
drawing above is sold printed at the correct size for 1/8th scale
people and comes with the paper patterns for the clothes and brief
instructions. |
The next page gives prices and details of
heads, hands, footwear, and paper clothes' patterns.
