This shows my working rubber
(actually: Gelflex thermoplastic material) model. The 9 part mould
was filled and emptied through a large hole where the tail is pinned
in place. The tail itself was cast in a separate two part mould
and during fettling was attached into the correct position to fill
the hole. Before this was done, a small 3mm. hole was drilled into,
usually, the chest between the front legs, where it would not show.
This hole allowed the air inside the model to leak out as the clay
dried. During firing, the hole allowed air in and out as it expanded
and contracted, thus preventing the model exploding in the kiln.
All my figurine models are hollow. |
| Bull
Terrier, fired size, 4.75 inches high. |

The
next page is dogs, Cavalier King
Charles Spaniel to Collie (Rough).
