Dogs:
Introduction page.
I began in the sixties, making dog models of my own breed of Keeshonds
because there were no commercial models available, and sold them at
Keeshond Club Dog Shows which partly paid for travelling and entry fees
when I was showing my own dogs.
These
were followed by Corgis, Cavalier KCS, Shetland Sheepdogs, Old English
Sheepdogs, all made for the relevant breed club, in all the breed colours,
and subject to expert supervision until they were satisfied that the
model incorporated the standards required of the breed. In addition
to the models, I also produced small low reliefs for brooches, etc.
We advertised the products and sold by mail order to many countries.
By 1983 there were 40 models on the list, but the Kennel Club was accepting
new breeds faster than I could keep up. Initially, my models were retailed
by a stand-holder at Crufts, but when she gave up, we had our own stand
at Olympia and Earls Court for some years until the Kennel Club moved
Crufts to Birmingham. We also sold the models at shows such as the Royal
Norfolk County Show at the Costessey Show-ground in Norwich. This type
of show was not a cost-effective use of our time particularly when the
stand-fees rocketed.
What follows is the full list of the models in production in 1983, divided
into six pages. They are no longer made as I have given up travelling
to shows where I might sell them. Some have, however, appeared on Ebay,
and people ask how much they would cost now. I have therefore put the
current 2005 mail order prices on the list below. If you can buy one
on Ebay cheaper, good luck! Otherwise, come to me and I will see if
I can make one for you. Much depends on the state of the mould.
The
name of the breed takes you to an image of the model on the page. The
model sizes on the images are given in millimetres, because this is
more accurate than inches and tenths of an inch. Each name takes you
near enough to the image on the page. The page size is given in KB,
so you may estimate how long the page will take to load.

In addition
to colouring to all normal breed standards, some models were coloured
to photographs as portraits of a particular dog. The ceramic colours
were applied to the raw clay by air-brush, and the excess scraped off.
This technique allowed me to achieve precise application of individual
markings, such as harlequin or tri-colours.
Where
the modelling made it possible, identification was engraved by hand
onto the base or tummy of the model. See the Dates
section for date records.
The
first page of dog images is Afghan
